Asian College of Knowledge Management (ACKM) was formerly known as Asian Knowledge Management Association (AKMA), which was established in 2001 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the continuous development, promotion and application of knowledge management principles, models and techniques in Asia. Its promotion to Asian College of Knowledge Management indicates an enhancement in academics and research as well as curriculum that enables the college to become the "Knowledge Base" in Asia. In September, the innovative and informative book "Knowledge Management: The Key To Success in the 21st Century" was published - the first ever of its kind to be published in Hong Kong.

In January 2003, AKMA was interviewed by Metro Finance, and signed an agreement with Career Times for a feature column.

In May 2003, an official announcement about "IP8001 Intellectual Property Management System Standard", "KM8001 Knowledge Management Standard" and "IC8001 Intellectual Capital Standard" has been made. AKMA is the first institution gaining such prestigious recognition.

The official inauguration ceremony of AKMA was held in September 2003. The Honorable Ms Rita Fan graced the ceremony as she presented the Honorary Fellowship Award to Ron Young and other world-wide famous businessmen.

In 2004, AKMA developed a sound media relationship with Hong Kong Economic Times, Ming Pao and Oriental Daily, etc. In May, AKMA launched a program of Fellowship of Business Administration, with over 200 CEOs, Presidents, entrepreneurs and management level leaders in attendance.

In 2005, we held a launching ceremony for the Fellowship of Business Administration programs and inauguration ceremony of our executive council. During the ceremony, an Honorary Fellowship was presented to Prof. ZHANG Jun-sheng and Prof. Bernard Chien-Chiu LI. In the same year, our book “CEO’s Successful Wisom” by Dr. Peter LIAO was also published.

In 2006, AKMA's Fellowship of Business Administration Program is acknowledged by many institutions, including the well-known The Institute of Technology Australia and the Canadian Chartered Institute of Business Administration.

On August 12, 2006, AKMA was invited by Peninsula Junior Chamber, organizing seminar titled “New Force of Knowledge Management”. Dr. Peter LIAO was the Chairperson, and the guest speakers including Mr. SHIH Wing-ching, Chairman of Centaline Group; Dr. YUEN Tsz Kit, the Director of Asian Knowledge Management Association and the representative from CSL Ltd.

In the same year, AKMA and Wen Wei Po joined forces for the Leadership Brand Publishing Project. These years, we have been invited to organize training and exchange programs by well-known enterprises, professional bodies and government departments, including Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, Hong Kong Post, Hong Kong Institute of Marketing, Hong Kong Institute of Real Estate Administrators, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and China Light & Power holdings Limited.

On October 12, 2006, Dr. Peter LIAO was invited by the China Light & Power Holdings Limited as a guest speaker. During the 3-days seminar, Dr. Peter LIAO introduced the Asian Knowledge Management Model to over 200 participants, who come from Hong Kong, China, Thailand, The U.S.A., Singapore and Australia.

On December 14, 2006, Prof. Richard Olesen, the Vice-President of Canadian Chartered Institute of Business Administration, and Dr. Peter LIAO visited the Consulate General of Canada. Mr. Patrick Cousinean, the Consul of Political, Economic and Public Affairs shared his point of view in the academic interaction between China and Canada.

On July 9, 2007, Dr. Peter LIAO was invited by the Chinese University of Hong Kong as a guest speaker on Knowledge Economy & Knowledge Management. Meanwhile he was invited by Radio Television Hong Kong’s New Management Thought Forum, providing insights on how to face the challenges of the knowledge Economy. The Hong Kong Economic Journal published the content on August 17, 2007.

On February 15, 2008, AKMA published the first Knowledge Economic Research Paper: “The Critical Ten Years of Hong Kong – Innovation, Knowledge, Talent and Operations Environment”. The content of the research paper focused on the analysis of the structural problems of the Hong Kong economy, providing suggestions for the economic transformation of Hong Kong economy.

On April 16, 2008, Hon. WONG Ting-kwong, the executive president of Asian Knowledge Management Association gave his comment on the structural problems of Hong Kong economy at the Legislative Council of HKSAR, hoping that the HKSAR could pay more attention on the knowledge-transition strategy.

On May 19, 2008, AKMA published the second Knowledge Economic Research Paper: “The Crisis of Hong Kong Economy – the Problem of Knowledge-transition”, outlining the challenges of Hong Kong economy and providing recommendations on the future of HKSAR economy.

On June 23, 2008, AKMA published the third Knowledge Economic Research Paper: “Shenzhen / Hong Kong Innovation Circle – the case study of Solar Energy”. The paper focused on the technology partnership between HKSAR and Shenzhen, and provided the analysis and solution of problems, thus establish a long-term cooperation mechanism.

On July 9, 2008, AKMA held the seminar “Shenzhen / Hong Kong Innovation Circle” – the case study of Du Pont Apollo Ltd. Dr. George SO, General Manager, Corporate Marketing of Greater China of Du Pont China Limited and Mr Anthony WONG Sik-kei, JP, former Commissioner for Innovation and Technology were invited as the guest speakers for the seminar.

On September 20, 2008, the Asian Knowledge Management Awards and the Ten Outstanding Asian Knowledge Leaders Awards were launched; and the Press Conference was held on September 25, 2008. Winners of this distinguished award play decisive roles in their fields in Asia, including Prof. POON Chung-kwong, former President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Dr. Yoshiro Nakamatsu, Japanese famous inventor with over 3200 inventions; Dr. LEE Tsu-der, Chairman of Director Board of Taipei Medical University; Prof. Nancy IP Yuk-yu, Chair professor and Head of Department of Biochemistry, The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology; Prof. YU Cheung-hoi, Vice Director of Neuroscience Research Institute, Peking University, China and Mr. LEUNG Siu-hong, Chairman of SAE Magnetics (H.K.) Ltd. Du Pont Apollo Limited was the winner of the “Asian Knowledge Management Award”.

On September 25, 2008, the government officials of Fuxin Municipal Government of Liaoning Province visited AKMA, and a welcome dinner was held in order to facilitate the communication between Hong Kong and Liaoning.

On November 30, 2008, new members of the Executive Committee were elected, including Dr. CHOI Chee-ming JP, Life Honorary President; Dr. Margaret CHOI LEE Wai-lai, Honorary President; Prof. ZHUANG Cheng-tian, Honorary President (Oversea); Hon. CHENG Yiu-tong, GBS, JP, Honorary President; Prof. LUI Sun-wing, Academic Adviser and Hon. WONG Ting-kwong, BBS, Executive President etc.

On December 2, 2008, Dr. Peter LIAO interviewed Prof. WANG Gung-wu, former Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong in Singapore. He was awarded the Honorary Fellowship for his great contribution to the development of Hong Kong’s tertiary education.

On December 9, 2008, 07/08 Fellowship Award Ceremony was held at Wang Gungwu Lecture Hall, The University of Hong Kong. Award winners in this year’s Fellowship Awards are all illustrious figures in the society, namely, Hon. CHENG Yiu-tong, GBS, JP; Hon. WONG Ting-kwong, BBS; Hon. Jeffrey LAM Kin-fung, SBS, JP; Dr. Hon. Philip WONG Yu-hong, GBS; Dr. MA Kai-cheung; Mr. KAN Fook-yee, barrister-at-law and Mr. TANG Yiu. There are totally 44 fellows winning this honorable award this year.

On January 21, 2009, Dr. Peter LIAO interviewed Prof. Paul CHU Ching-wu, President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology at his office. He was awarded the Honorary Fellowship for his great contribution to the development of Hong Kong’s tertiary education.
